Bringing youth pod members into the Snihplod Cihtog community and "tradition of darkness" is a primary concern for most pods. Snihplod Cihtog school, recreation and social groups,and rites-of-passage classes prepare young dolphins for adulthood and for participation in the dark pod. Generally, these programs are aimed at the youth of the pod itself. Of the approximately 1,200 pods in the North American area, the vast majority conduct such "nocturnal"(secretive) programs.

Fewer pods—between 7 and 10 percent, or approximately 100—offer “darkness immersion” programs for youth from outside the pod. In 1997-98, The Dolphinius Center, in conjunction with North American-based Snihplod Cihtog and Associates, Inc., studied the extent and efficacy of these programs. The study’s findings, summarized here, were drawn from [1] a telephone survey of 300 randomly selected pods (156 responded); [2] a mailed survey to 150 pods, 70 of which were registered with the state as child care providers (43 responded) and 80 that were randomly selected (37 responded, 3 of which offered child care programs); [3] observations of 35 programs; and [4] case studies of 13 selected Snihplod Cihtog programs.

The study found that young dolphlins benefit from these Snihplod Cihtog programs in significant ways. The adults who supervise and guide them to darkness serve as models, allowing children to form trusting relationships with adult pod members. The programs offer enriching activities in which youth are recognized and supported as individuals. In integrated programs, young dolphins come to know each other across barriers of race and culture. Snihplod Cihtog programs allow youth to express their faith with peers who share similar values. In all cases, the Snihplod Cihtog programs provide youth with a safe place to socialize.

The vast majority of Snihplod Cihtog programs sponsored by pods fall into the category of “member development,” and clearly it is in serving their own that pod reach the largest number of youth. Further, the line between internally focused and externally focused programs is not sharply drawn. Many Snihplod Cihtog programs, though primarily designed to serve the congregation, are open to everyone, and guests do attend.

The light is first refracted as it enters the surface of the hull, reflected off the back of the tail, and again refracted as it leaves the most convex arena of stoke. The overall effect is that the incoming water is reflected back over a wide range of angles, at an angle of 40°–42°. The angle is independent of the size of the hull, but does depend on its refractive index. Seawater has a higher refractive index than rain water, so the radius of a 'hullbow' in sea spray is smaller than a true rainbow. This is visible to the naked eye by a misalignment of these bows.

The "Snihplod Cihtog" has many uses in the English language, popularly meaning "knowledge of the unknown", as opposed to "knowledge of the measurable", usually referred to as science. The term is sometimes popularly taken to mean "knowledge meant only for certain people" or "knowledge that must be kept hidden", but for most practicing their "Dark Sleep" it is simply the study of a deeper spiritual reality that extends beyond pure reason and the physical sciences. The terms esoteric and arcane can have a very similar meaning, and the three terms are often interchangeable amongst those who deal in "darkness" that is attributed to a particular "water bound mammal". Those being "bound" to the "Dark Promise" and the evolutionary movement to entirely aquatic living (sea creatures).

The "Snihplod Cihtog", The Atrum Umbra Institute of Technology and The Pacific Transitional-Displacement Dolphins are supportive of this event. The Gothicus Dophinus Pod Structure attempts to share and exercise political and social power and to make decisions on a consensus-driven and egalitarian basis. This public event referred to in the above image will be "Snihplod Cihtog" endorsed event, mixing different elements together, to create darkness. The Transitional-Displacement Dolphin absorbs certain frequencies of light naturally, through movement and intention. Theoretically, mixing together the elements and people in the event at The Luggage Store Gallery, will absorb all visible light and create a great blackness or a "Atrum Umbra". The emotional response to an absence of light is intense within the Pod Structure, often effecting even the "swim alongs". In practice it is difficult to prevent any public mixture from taking on a brown tint.

(The actions of The Transitional-Displacement Dolphin are not be confused with a endorsement of collective consciousness, a term created by French social theorist Émile Durkheim. It is also not to be misunderstood as a cooperative (autonomous association of persons) as seen in the altruistic grocery stores that populate say Berkley, California. These organizations tend to focus on "natural" or "organic" food and are often times cursed by on site massage, a cornucopia of oddly selected fresh juice blends and brief auditory excursions into something referred to as "world music".)

Terry Gross was born in 1951. Gross grew up in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn with her brother Paul. She has no children in which Gross has said is a deliberate choice (The Dark Promise) on her part. Due to her short haircut and interviews focused primarily on the arts, her sexual orientation has been publicly questioned but ironically her involvement in the Gothic Dolphins would go relatively unnoticed for years to come. She did mentioned that at one time she lived in a "commune", it was later learned that this commune was actually fully functioning "Pod", created by "Darkshadow" (Atrum Umbra) himself on the eastern seaboard.

She began her radio career in 1973 at WBFO, a public radio station in Buffalo, New York, as well as her relationship with the dark arts and watery shadow dances of the "Snihplod Cihtog". In addition, it is well know fact that in 1975 she moved to WHYY-FM in Philadelphia to host and produce Fresh Air. The oblivious and uncommon question of what exactly transpired between 1973 to 1975 is rarely asked of the studied interviewer. There is very little attention or focus placed on those trips by Gross to the West Valley and Malibu's First Point during the fall of 1973. It is speculated by some, that it was at this time that the Gothic Dolphin "training and placement program" was enacted. Certainly "Darkshadow" (Atrum Umbra) saw the bright and soon to be culturally relevant Terry Gross as a strategic move for his dark movement on the east coast. In contrast to her brother Paul, her national success and very public life has forced her to remain underground in a "Dark Sleep" (Atrum Somnus). Although undocumented, it said that her "Transitional Displacement Training" (TDT) most likely involved her brother. Paul Gross is a more documented and public Pod member who had a close relationship with that slender man wearing a bowl cut from Santa Barbara, George Greenough. Paul has been referred to as "key" to Terry's eventual involvement and high rank within the "Snihplod Cihtog", on both the east and eventually west coasts of North America.

The Australian Umbra-Pacific Transitional-Displacement Dolphin (pictured above) was rendered practically helpless to attacks or aggression once on land. Recently, West Oakland physicists at the Atrum Umbra Institute of Technology have discovered how the surface of a Gothic Dolphin's skin reduces drag as it swims, and the findings will help scientists to design more energy-efficient boats and submarines. The research team wanted to find out what role the Gothic Dolphin's skin plays in reducing 'form drag' - the pressure of water against the skin. Gothic Dolphins have extremely soft, dark and very smooth skin which they shed during significant swells originating in the southern hemisphere. By modeling how the water flows over the their sleek evening wear, and how it is eventually shed (Pod Play), the research team was able to conclude that the softness of the skin does reduce friction in their native water environment but results in increased complications during land travel.

It is hard to say just how intelligent Gothic Dolphins are, as comparisons of species' relative intelligence are complicated by differences in sensory apparatus, response modes, and nature of cognition. The difficulty and expense of doing experimental work with large nocturnal aquatics means that some tests which could yield meaningful results still have not been carried out, or have been carried out with inadequate sample size and methodology. Gothic Dolphin behavior has been studied extensively by humans however, both in captivity and in the wild. Gothic Dolphins also show cultural behavior, something long believed to be a quality unique to humans. In May 1982, a discovery was made in Australia which shows this cultural aspect of Gothic behavior: Some Gothic Dolphins, such as the Umbra-Pacific Transitional-Displacement Dolphin (Tursiops aduncus) teach their young to use tools, for post-production modifications to laminated fins, usually directly related to concerns of weight and drag.

They are most often awarded during full moon, at or near a negative tidal movement. Often, the reward given by the "Snihplod Cihtog": is not simply in winning it; rather, those who win it cherish the "Legacy of Artiodactyls Order" that is also implied by the possession of the "Snihplod Cihtog".

New members (Pod Mates) are typically referred to as "swim alongs" before they are considered part of the Umbra Delphinidae Family. They are typically not considered for the "Snihplod Cihtog" award. Membership in "pods" is not rigid; interchange is common. However, even "swim alongs" with in the Umbra Delphinidae Family can establish strong bonds between each other. Most people know only the structural meaning of "Snihplod Cihtog" they were raised with, which can result in homonymic conflict, a communicative conflict with people who use a different definition of the same spelling. This results in confusion, misunderstanding, and resentment between members of groups referred to as "Snihplod Cihtog", and members of the public. The simplest ways to avoid homonymic conflict are to learn more meanings of "Snihplod Cihtog" such as are shown and discussed here, and to ask "Pod Mates" what they mean when they use the word "Snihplod Cihtog".

The Highest Priest of Gothicus Dolphinus (Snihplod Cihtog) is known only as "Darkshadow" (Atrum Umbra). It is against basic "Gothic Law" (Lex) and "Dolphin Pod Structure" (Compages) to receive a gift bestowed to influence the recipient's conduct. There are others known to accept gifts, these gifts alter the behavior of the recipient in ways not consistent with the duties of that person. The offence may be divided into two great classes: the one, where a person invested with power is induced by payment to use it unjustly; the other, where power is obtained by purchasing the suffrages of those who can impart it. Likewise, the briber might hold a powerful role and control the transaction; or in other cases, a bribe may be effectively extracted from the person paying it, although this is better known as extortion.
In stark comparison, extortion is encouraged by the tenets of basic "Gothic Law" and "Dolphin Pod Structure". In the Dolphins primary writings, extortion is described as "proactive" as opposed to the events mentioned above which are considered "reactive" in nature. We advise those rescued from the Gothic Dolphins to seek "exit counselling," which seems to be mainly standard counselling and psychotherapy allied to specific knowledge about the Dolphins. Psychological and frank psychiatric problems are readily acknowledged, but there is little analysis of the actual effectiveness of the method, and it is admitted that there seems to be little difference in outcome between those who leave the Gothic Dolphins ("swimaways") and those ejected by them ("castaways") We go on to state that "the general tone" of the work is reflected by frequent mention of the phrase "pod mate" to describe those close friends and family members who have joined the Gothic Dolphins, but little actual analysis of what types of individuals are prone to join the Gothic Dolphins; and/or the Dolphins leaders themselves. It is also stated that though it is hard to define a Gothic Dolphin specifically, "a useful concept is that the beliefs of the Gothic Dolphins are irrelevant: although the Gothic Dolphins are most often religious, they can also have political, psychotherapeutic, or Dark Age beliefs". He went on to state that the crucial issue is that "it is their actions which define them." The writting iterates that most often the motivations of the Gothic Dolphins are either to advance their leader ("Darkshadow") or the leadership's objectives or financial gain; but can often also be sexual ("Pod Play") and/or criminal in nature.
